awk pattern matching on ssh

Hi folks,

i am trying to filer some log file using awk command. When i try it on remote server, it can show the result.

Code:
awk '$1=="2012-10-29" && $4==17353' somelogfile

But when i try to execute it from ssh, it cannot show the same result.

Code:
ssh someserver "awk '\$1=="2012-10-28" && \$4==17353' somelogfile"

I suspect this must because of the date format (2012-10-29), because when i try to do one pattern matching only using awk script below, it can produce the result.

Code:
ssh someserver "awk '\$4==17353' somelogfile"

Please advise since i am still a newbie about all this scripting stuff

Thanks

@pamu, your solution will not work. You are allowing the shell to interpret $1 and $4 in that double-quoted string.

There's nothing ssh specific there. It's how a command pipeline is interpreted by the shell.

Strangely, this scripts works. My complete awk commands is

Code:
ssh someserver "awk '\$1==\"2012-10-28\" && \$4==17353' somelogfile"

However i also found a way to use value on those date. Just sharing my alternative script

Code:
ssh someserver "awk -v date=2012-10-28 -v id=17353 '\$1 == date && \$4 == id' somelogfile"

If you need to know the exact command seen by ssh (which will be passed to your remote server), just add an echo before the ssh command line.
Code:
echo ssh someserver "awk -v date=2012-10-28 -v id=17353 '\$1 == date && \$4 == id' somelogfile"

ssh someserver awk -v date=2012-10-28 -v id=17353 '$1 == date && $4 == id' somelogfile

So, the last line shows the exact command seen by ssh after shell interpretation.

BTW, the working solution is the one suggested by me, isn't it?
