Date/time differences
A thanks to all ahead of time.

I've checked previous posts about this subject and can't find any that quite fit what I need. If I've missed the post could you point me there.

When I do an ls -al I get the following output:
-rw-r--r-- 1 staff staff 855 July 24 20:05 .ftp_out

The date on the machine is: July 24 21:15:22

my problem comes in that I need to find the difference between the file date/time and the current date/time. I have several different files to compare but, I would like a shove in the right direction. Can I convert the file date/time to the same format as the machine and just subtract?

It may matter on what OS and version you are using. You could change the way date outputs to have just hours:minutes

date +%H:%M
