Issue with copying files

Hi I have to write a shell script which copy files from one folder to another.
When I try to do it directly from command prompt
cp filename.dat /outgoing/filename.dat
its working fine.
But when I put the same command inside a shell script say test.sh its not getting copied. and when I check $? after the execution of the script it returned 0.

Is there any restrictions that causes this situation.
Note: as a first step in my shell script I am loading .env.sh which loads all environment details and other config details.
Please help.

Thanks...

One reason might be because filename.dat is not present in the same directory as your script - test.sh. To avoid such issues give absolute path.
Code:
cp /abs/path/to/filename.dat /abs/new/path/

What is your full script?
From which directory are you calling the script?
Is filename.dat in the directory from where you are calling the script or are you changing directories in your script?
Please don't leave people guessing. Post as much information (script,OS and shell name) as possible; you'll get a proper solution then.

infact I am using the path which starts from root. something like
cp /app/prd/ftp/incoming/ipr312.dat /app/prd/ftp/outgoing/ipr312.dat
