Error when using if [ find '

I am trying to issue the following command in script:

if [ 'find /tmp/tst_file =mtime -1 grep | wc -l' -eq 1 ]; then

and I am getting the following error:

bad number

Any ideas

Try this.
Code:
NUM=$(find /tmp/tst_file =mtime -1 | wc -l)

if [ $NUM -eq 1 ] ; then
echo " Only 1 file."
fi ;

Another point, what is the grep for in

if [ 'find /tmp/tst_file =mtime -1 grep | wc -l' -eq 1 ]; then.

Is that a typo or what ?

if [ $( find /tmp/tst_file -mtime -1 grep | wc -l ) -eq 1 ]; then ...

great, that wored, thanks.

ps, grep was a typo, trying lots of different ways to get this to work, only a novice.

How come my method would not work?

I think you gave a ' instead of a `

The difference is ' is a quote and ` is a backtick (found on top of the TAB key)
