Replace a word using sed
Hi,
I have the following line in file1
Code:
export NAME="NEW_NAME"

I'm writing a shell script which reads the NEW_NAME from the user and replace in the file. I have used the following command for that
Code:
       read Name_replace
       sed -i 's/NEW_NAME/$Name_replace/'  file1

but it is not working.

Can anyone help me with this?

Use below

Code:
 
export NAME="NEW_NAME"
read Name_replace
sed -i 's/NEW_NAME/'$Name_replace'/' file1

hope you have -i option on sed

And double quote $Name_replace "$Name_replace" to preserve white space in the new string (if any) and to prevent the sed command from breaking.
