ok - you seem to be using tcsh for your interactive shell.
create a shell wrapper script (cronWrapper.sh) for your perl when you set the environment:
Code:
#!/bin/tcsh

sources ~/.cshrc
/path/to/my/script/cron.pl

0 17 * * * /path/to/my/script/cronWrapper.sh

Trying that now but can you tell me when people keep referring to profile and cshrc are they talking about the file in each user's home directory? If so then mine is called local.profile and local.cshrc

This didn't work, can I specify the full path to cshrc in place of the ~
I.E.
Code:
sources /home/jay/cshrc
/path/to/script/cron.pl

Also supposing cron.pl can execute with n different options wouldn't I need n wrappers?

I think ye can abandon this thread at this stage guys. I appreciate the help but I guess i'll go read Unix for Dummies :P

sorry - fat fingers:
Code:
#!/bin/tcsh
source ~/.cshrc
/path/to/my/script/cron.pl

I don't know which .*rc file your shell is using to set up the environment.
Try whichever .rc that has your environment defined.
