Which UNIX or Linux are you talking about? Check the man page of the command ps for state or stat or maybe directly for "zombie".

hello all, when we are creating a process by using fork, if the child process terminates before parent, the child process exists as zombie.. I had issues with processes locking up. This script checks for processes and kills them if they are older than a certain time.
