solve temporary root password

Hi everybody! I'm italian and I'm new on this forum Smilie
I have a question. Every day in my office root's servers password are modified temporary. I want create a script that:

-set tmp password root (I insert tmp password from input standard)

-after 24h tmp root password switch to prod password. Smilie

Can someone help me?
p.s. Excuse me for no good english Smilie

- make a copy of /etc/security/passwd
- run script which changes password from crontab
- run another script which restores primary password (e.g. replace correct string in /etc/security/passwd with content of old file. But be aware: every user's password is there, so you should not owerwrite entire file, just root's entry.

File content looks like this:

root:
password = 7QORb7iJAhULw
lastupdate = 1094111593
flags =

remember - root's password is third line in file.

We are having a little problem on a server. We want that some users should be able to do e.g. sudo and become root, but with the restriction that the user can't change root password.
