How to use system function in awk

Could any one tell me how to use the system function in awk?
I want to use it to print the system date.

I have been trying like this :

yes |head -1|awk '{ system("date")}'

When I execute the above it always returns back to the prompt.

Your help would be much appreciated.
regards,
srikanth.

there's nothing wrong with what you're doing [apart from not closing the stream - close("date")]

The problem is that your 'yes | head -1' returns NOTHING

try something like:
nawk 'BEGIN { system("date"); close("date")}'

Thanks Vgersh99!
I guess awk doesn't support the system function.
When I tried with nawk even this worked:

yes|head -1|nawk 'BEGIN { system("date")}'

Thanks once again.
regards,
srikanth.

psg telnetd | awk '{
system("print("%s",$0)>> /u/bin/Test") }'

it shows error
awk: Cannot divide by zero when using the modulo operator.
The input line number is 1.
The source line number is 18.
