Other alternative for joining together columns from multiple files

Hi again,

I have monthly one-column files of roughly around 10 years. Is there a more efficient way to concatenate these files column-wise other than using paste command? For instance:

Code:
file1.txt
12
13
15
12

file2.txt
14
15
18
19

file3.txt
20
21
13
12

expected output (one file containing all the concatenated columns)
12 14 20
13 15 21
15 18 13
12 19 12

Thank you in advance.

What is wrong with using paste?

Paste is very convenient if i do few files. Or is there a possibility to use paste inside a loop, and if so whats the right way to do it. Many thanks.
This is how i manually do it, any suggestion to optimize this?thanks again.
Code:
paste file1.txt file2.txt file3.txt... file120.txt > allfile.txt

paste can handle lots of files. You'll have to be more specific, I don't see any good reason it wouldn't work for you yet.

So you mean you have more than three files containing your data?

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. Yes, there are like quite a bunch of individual files, at least 120 for now. Sorry for the confusion. So if like i have do it manually with paste its a bit too much work to put all the files together.

If you have all the files in one directory, then this will work:
Code:
paste -d" " * > output.file
