Download all thread, can this be done?

Hello All,

This might sound silly.

Here is my thought, I want to download all threads and their posts in this forum/website with their title being the filename and I want it compressed.

Is there a way to do it? Smilie Smilie Smilie Smilie Smilie Smilie Smilie Smilie

P.S.: I dont want the person's names or code tags included in the content. Also, this is for reference purpose, I would like to do this.

This doesn't "sound silly" at all, just despicable.

The content of this forum is written for *this forum* and belongs to the forums owner(s). I can't say for the other contributors but for me the situation is as follows:

When i write here it is in the spirit of mutual help and i don't mind - in fact i am glad if - somebody somewhere can make use of what i write. Still, this is not done without any reward for me: i hone my skills by explaining to others, but i also get recognition in return. Being recognized is a sort-of currency in the "noosphere" (a term coined by Eric Raymond IIRC) and in this regard i am "earning" something here. For me to having been the moderator for the AIX part of the arguably best UNIX-forum in the I-Net the last 7 years is usually impressing my customers. Some even recognize me when i tell them my nickname here.

What you want to do:

is ripping the fruits of my work (you don't want my name sticking to it) off me. And not only that: if you read carefully the pages of this forum you will see a copyright notice, which reserves the rights to the content to the forum owner(s). This is ok with me, because i accept that also the owner of the infrastructure wants his share of the recognition for the money he spends to run it.

But me giving (a part of) my work freely to this owner doesn't mean i give it to you too.

There is a long history of my posts being ripped off this forum and used as stolen content in other boards, for instance in this thieving board or in this thieves blog. We (the owners and me) have often worked together taking down the websites of such thieves and/or extracting cease-and-desist letters with complete removal of the stolen content from them.

While it adulates my self-esteeem to see my articles worthy to be stolen it doesn't make the crime one iota less criminal and i will take any measure necessary to not only protect my work but also the infrastructure it dwells in.

Bottom line: go ahead. Rip the content off here. Zip it and remove the authors name. But either you do that for your private enjoyment only - then it is absolutely nonsensical, because you could read the same here any time - or you try to do something - anything - with it. In this case my lawyers will find you, no matter what, and i will extract reimbursement for all and any damage you did to this board from you.

But maybe i am mistaken and you don't want to rip off *this* board. Maybe you are just training here what you want to do to someone else. Helping you would constitute complicity then and as much as i hate thieves i would hate lending a thief a helping hand eve more.

I am going to close this thread for said reasons. Maybe you can explain to an admin (scott or Neo) what you want to do and maybe you can make it look insuspicious enough for them to reopen the thread. Personally, i doubt that and, again personally, my conviction is that if it looks like a duck, waddles like a duck, quacks like a duck and lays eggs then most probably it is a duck. The same goes for everything else and here i have seen enough.
