hi I am on AIX 5 and i have a script that runs the following command to list processes running. I then want to kill the returned processes. The PID are on field 2 separated by spaces.

Code:

$ ps -ef|grep "rams.e $PORT"
   lesqa 1826998 2646248   0 11:20:35  pts/2  0:00 grep rams.e  
   t24cm 2789380       1   0 06:06:41      -  0:00 rams.e 50001 
   t24cm 3145730 2789380   0 06:07:12      -  0:00 rams.e 50001 
$

And this is the command to return the PIDs

$ ps -ef|grep "rams.e $PORT"|grep -v grep|cut -c10-15
278938
314573
$

As you can see the previous developer who did this assumed 6 characters for a PID but sometimes its more or less.

How can i ensure that my grep picks the full PID? Is there a way of saying get the second field separated by space of such?

Once check then include the hightlighted part ..
