No, it assigns the string "my_script" to the variable "script"; that's all it does.

And should this script have an extension of .txt or no extension?

The suffix (it's not an extension) is irrelevant.

To allow the use of other files names, pass them on the command line and use file=$1 in the script:

Has anyone come accross and solved an issue where only 1 copy of a doc prints after you use the -n flag and specify more then 1.
