Shell script for reading number of files on server

Hi,
I have requirement: of reading number of files on perticular server for current date, in perticular folder and send out emails to business folks. I'm not unix person; but i can use this script in another tool to get the desired results.
I appriciate your help.

system on which i'm going to use this script is SAP PI; and the server is on windows the FTP

SAP is middleware, not an operating system. What operating system(s) are the clients this script will run on?

Do you have access to a unix Systems Administrator who can answer technical questions?

Tool is SAP PI, i have command line in this tool; so i can execute shell script here..
i can run this shell script in my SAP PI system on command line; looking for the script to count the no' of files on perticular server(Windows server) from SAP PI server(Solaris Server) and send out email to business folks of no' of files.. is it possible using command line?
