how to check if a directory exists or not.if not need to create it
Hi,
I am using solaris 10 OS and bash shell.just checking for small code snippet which follows below.

Code:
/export/home/vomappservers/spa/common/5.0
/export/home/vomappservers/spa/common/scripts
/export/home/vomappservers/spa/tools
/export/home/vomappservers/spa/scm5.0/SCCS
/export/home/vomappservers/spa/scm5.0/checkpt

Requirement is script should check for the existance of mentioned directories in the server if exists it sould say directory already exist .if not present,it should create the directories.

mkdir -p <directory_name>

          -d file        True if file exists and is a directory.


So you could use it like...

if [ -d /export/home/vomappservers/spa/common/5.0 ]; then
 echo directory already exist
else 
 mkdir -p /export/home/vomappservers/spa/common/5.0
fi

Make sure you really want to create directory if its a real server.

As a hint, scroll down this thread. The forum software has some suggestions for your problem in older threads, as this is a often asked question. There is also a search function for this forum and as last hint, you could check the man page for the test command.

Dear Sir you can use the following code:

echo " enter the directory you want "
read x1
if [ -s $x1 ]
then 
  echo " this directory is found "
else
  mkdir -p $x1
fi


try it I try it and works well
