We know next to nothing about your app and have been given nothing to work from hence are reduced to making random guesses.

How do you usually access the UI? Through the terminal you started it with? If you don't start it in a terminal and don't arrange a terminal by other means, it won't be in a terminal...

Or is it graphical? A graphical UI wouldn't have anything to do with the terminal. It could be an environment problem, which is common enough when you run things from cron.

Could you show us the cron line & the script it runs?

I don't know what type of os or shell your using, but for example if you are using 'ksh' and are using a '.profile', insert ". .profile;" before the command you are running on your cron job entry so it runs your ".profile" setting up the environment before running your command, for example:
Code:
## minute, hour , day of the month, month of the year, day of the week
## (0-59) (0-23) (1-31) (1-12) (0-6 0-Sunday)
##------------------------------------------------------------------------
00 13 * * 0 . .profile; print `date +%Y-%m-%d-%H.%M.%S` >>/user/logs/sync.log
