MySQL Perform operations as a non root user

Hi All,

I need a help in the below scenario.

I want to perform few operations as a non root user but those operations can be performed only by the root user. For example I need to modify /etc/hosts file as a non root user. This is just one scenario.

Could you please provide your suggestion on this.

Thanks,
Kalai

As far as I know, You can-not do that if your admin don't allow you.
You need either one of the below..

1) root access.
2) sudo access.
3) write access for user/group (you logged in) for the specific files you want to modify.

If root is the owner of the file, then you cant cant change/modify the permission of the file without root access.

Using chmod command you can change the file permission to give read/write access to the file as any user or as a user of the particular group.

Thanks a lot for suggestion. It is possible to create any customized shell for a user to perform specific root operations.
