How do you paste >> into a file in a terminal?

how do you paste >> into a file in a terminal?

it keeps pasting as

i just want it to show

i have a list of mysql commands in a text file and i want to paste it into another file which i'm using the terminal to edit

well, i am editing the file, like it is open in the terminal
and i want to paste in << exactly like that


but if i paste \<\< >
it just shows like that

not <<

What do you mean with pasting? Are you copy-pasting while editing a file? In what editor?
