By this, do you mean so that you can execute scripts/binaries in that directory? For instance you want to execute "dir with spaces"/some-command
If that is the case, then I would think this would work:
You could also add it to the PATH PATH=$PATH:"$path", however if you are searching multiple times, you might want to save your original PATH so that you are not growing your PATH without bound, nor are you keeping previous directories in the PATH after you've added the next one.
