How to ignore case(upper and lower) from user input?
Hi,
In my script it takes the input from the user. i.e. sys or system.
How can i make it case insensitive in my code.

Code:
if [ "$LEVEL" = "sys" ] || [ "$LEVEL" = "system" ]; then
             echo "valid"


Any help is appreciated.

Hi, you can either use a case statement like this:
Code:
case $LEVEL in
  [sS][yY][sS]|[sS][yY][sS][tT][eE][mM]) echo "valid" ;;
esac

or convert to lowercase first:
Code:
case $( printf "%s" $LEVEL | tr [:upper:] [:lower:] ) in
  sys|system) echo "valid" ;;
esac

I wanted to use the if statement.

typeset -l LEVEL

You can use the conversion method with the if statement:
Code:
if [ $(echo "$LEVEL" |tr [:upper:] [:lower:]) = "sys" ] || [ $(echo "$LEVEL" |tr [:upper:] [:lower:]) = "system" ]; then
             echo "valid"
