How would it interpolate values which only have one end?

Code:
?,?,?,0.4,0.3,,0.3,,0.3,,0.5,,0.3,,,0.4,0.3,

its ok if you Skip it. Its only the first couple lines which is ok. script would have to go down each column one at a time Vertical.

Each column is a different server.

If each column is a different server, what's the point of interpolating? If the columns are independent, a random number would be just as good a guess Smilie

Why not fill them in with zeroes?

Code:
$ awk -F"," -v OFS="," '{ for (N=2; N<=NF; N++) if (!$N || ($N==" ")) $N=0 } 1' data

Or do you want the missing value to be filled in with data from last time? That'd make more sense than interpolating with data from other servers...

Code:
awk -F"," -v OFS="," '{ for (N=2; N<=NF; N++) if (!$N || ($N==" ")) { $N=D[N] } else { D[N]=$N } } 1' data

You can also do both, filling in with zeroes wherever data cannot be assumed from past data:

Code:
awk -F"," -v OFS="," '{ for (N=2; N<NF; N++) if (!$N || ($N==" ")) { $N=sprintf("%.1f", D[N]); } else { D[N]=$N } } 1' data

i cant have 0s because i wont be able to graph that properly. What i want to do is just place data where ever theres no data. I need to interpret what would of been there hence the calculations depending on empty spaces
