list files with a specific pattern

How can I list files with the following specific criteria?

Quote:
fsdfaf.log
fsaffa.log1
rwerw.log2
safsaf.log20120221
I am trying this $> ls *.log[12] or $>ls *.log? --> [globbing]

but it only gives me fsaffa.log1, rwerw.log2.
How can I get all three files with a simple selection criteria ?

fsdfaf.log

rwerw.log2

Try:
Code:

That egrep is broken.

egrep uses extended regular expressions (ERE), not sh pattern matching. "*." in an ERE is an undefined expression; the * needs to follow something so that it can act as a quantifier (in basic regular expressions, a leading asterisk is interpreted literally). Also, the "." matches any character, not just itself.

The regular expression equivalent of the sh pattern *.log is .*\.log$
