Java Help Me with the formatting of text
Hi,

I am new to this forum; I need a help for my scripting problem.

I have made a script in Unix which is extracting a report but the issue is that report is not in a proper format.

Original Report Ex:
Code:
Field 1....................... a b c d e f g
Field 2............. @ID.@ID
Field 3........................ ab.xy, cd.z
Field 4............... 7_prompt.2345_1

I need a report like below:
Code:
Field1,a b c d e f g
Field2,@ID.@ID
Field3,ab.xy, cd.z
Field4,7_prompt.2345_1

Or
Code:
Field1          Field2		Field3		Field4
a b c d e f g	@ID.@ID      ab.xy, cd.z	7_prompt.2345_1

I have tried different options like:
Code:
tr -s ' ' <file.txt | tr ' ' ',' >file.csv 
sed 's/\./,/' report.csv

but none of them is working; If someone can help me urgently with this I'll be really thankful to him Smilie

Can you post your input data using code tags? Here is the video tutorial on how to use code tags.

sed 's/\.*/,/' report.csv

.... can help u.... which will catch .(if it is one or more than that...)
