Run command in background thru script

Dear All,

Writing a script in which I want to run a command in background and keep it running even script is finished.

I have tried like below,

`truss -p <pid> >> & /tmp/log &`

But doesnt work.. script goes running and nothing in log file.

The evaluation `...` forces the script to wait until the traced process is finished. Also I suspect that you meant something more like the following...
Code:
truss -p $PID 2&>1 >/tmp/log &

Thanks Skrynesaver, but this code also doesnt serve the purpose. Behavior is still the same

One more thing, even when I kill truss manually the log remains empty

Please paste the exact code you are using. I don't see any issue with running this as background process. I tried truss in SunOS and stace in Linux, both seems to work and getting logged in the log file.

Hi Ahamed,
Getting below error while running the code.
Code:
truss: cannot trace '>>': no such process
truss: cannot trace '&': no such process
truss: cannot trace '/tmp/log': no such process
truss: cannot trace '&': no such process

I am giving my code in `` quotes. The issue is only when I run this in script, directly on prompt this command runs properly

Please paste the exact code you are using... Using `...` will wait for the process to complete...
