Shell Programming and Scripting

I have an awk script to extract data from several files and create output in the following format as a csv file:

xxxx 01/04/12 0001 0

When data is present, I have a file. When no data is available in the input files, I would still like to create a file that looks like this:

xxxx 01/04/12 0001 0
xxxx 01/04/12 0002 0
xxxx 01/04/12 0003 0
.
.
.
xxxx 01/04/12 0024 0

The date field is always the current date. I am using awk to extract the data and have figured out how to get the current date. I pass it to awk using the -v option.

I have searched through the forums and haven't had any success. Please help. Thanks.
