Here is my code

Code:
$ cat -n ifelseif_01.sh
     1  #!/bin/sh
     2  if [ -f find -name xxx.txt ] then
     3  echo "file found"
     4  echo "job successful"
     5  fi
     6  if [ $? != 0 ] then
     7  echo "error message"

Here is the error message:
Code:

./ifelseif_01.sh: line 5: syntax error near unexpected token `fi'
./ifelseif_01.sh: line 5: `fi'

I think two things

1) your if is too complicated
if [ -f sample.txt]
2) need a semicolon
if [ -f sample.txt] ; then

Thank you so much, also another question. What if I want to find if the file exists in root directory and its subdirectories, how can I modify the current code
Code:
 cat -n ifelseif_01.sh
     1  #!/bin/sh
     2
     3  if [ -f sqlscript_01.sh ]
     4  then
     5  echo "file found"
     6  echo "job successful"
     7  else
     8  echo "file not found"
     9  fi

When searching for a file by name, always allow for more than one hit. And be sure to search everywhere (including directories which are links).

Code:
#!/bin/sh
counter=0
search='sqlscript_01.sh'
find // -type f -follow -name "${search}" -print | while read filename
do
        counter=$(( $counter + 1 ))
        echo "File found : ${filename}"
done
if [ $counter -eq 0 ]
then
        echo "File not found : ${search}"
fi
