Hi,
An extension of the same question- I have to run this over a large dataset and when I try to separate into small files, there is a big inefficiency, i.e the whole loop checks through the whole file for a match and does this over again and again. Is there a way that I can save the NR value when a last match is found and use the saved NR for the next iteration? My entries are in sequence, so the NR for newer matches will linearly increase.

Hi,
To solve the above issue, I tried something like this-
I also tried to read on how to modify the NR value within AWK, but I did not find anything very useful.
The issue with this piece of code is that FNR value doesnot change at all, awk runs through all the lines as before. I have declared a variable c which is 1 within the shell script, so the FNR value must be one at all times, but it is not so.
I am learning SED and just following the shell scripting book, i have trouble understanding the grep and sed statement,

I'm not sure if the problem I'm seeing is an artifact of sed or simply a beginner's mistake. Here's the problem: I want to add a zero-width space following each underscore between XML tags. For example, if I had the following xml:
<MY_BIG_TAG>This_is_a_test</MY_BIG_TAG>
It should look like... (8 Replies)
