Slidseshow/Signage script/app for my office announcements

I have been searching for a (free /cheap) simple scrip to run on Ubuntu that I can use as a weekly announcement display for my department of my office. I volunteered to provide this, but I'm not finding anything ready to use.

I have seen a very basic script that runs on a Mac Mini, users just drop JPG files (images or powerpoint screens converted to JPG files) into the Image folder over the network, and they are displayed one by one at predetermined time intervals as a slide show.

I'm also hoping to add a Weather widget to this.

I'm also researching how to create such a script from scratch.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Image viewer

Looks like I'll try the FEH lightweight image viewer.

Wx3. go2linux.org/feh-light-weight-image-viewer-for-linux

I've seen this used in Linux Photo Frame projects.

Any better suggestions?
