Grep -v contents of a list file from another file.
Hello,

I am trying to get output from FILE2 that excludes servers from list FILE1. I've tried a for loop with no success. Any ideas how to go about this?

FILE1 contains:
Code:
server1
server2
server3
server4
server5

FILE2 contains:
Code:
server1:ERROR:user1: error message
server2:ERROR:user2: error message
server3:ERROR:user3: error message
server4:ERROR:user3: error message
server5:ERROR:user1: error message
server6:ERROR:user5: error message
server7:ERROR:user8: error message
server8:ERROR:user9: error message

Code:
grep -v -F -f file1 file2

-F means 'fixed strings', to prevent it considering the contents of file1 as regexes.

Code:
$ grep -v -F -f file1 file2
server6:ERROR:user5: error message
server7:ERROR:user8: error message
server8:ERROR:user9: error message

Beware that any blank lines in file1 will silence everything, since blank lines match everything.
