Hello All,

1. Is there any utility/command in solaris that can strip out from two files, the common lines between them?

2. For two given files, Is there something like a minus feature for files. I would like to see the lines in file one not in file 2 and vice versa along with the lines that have changed. The diff utility bunches difference together, thereby making it a difficult choice to use.

you can try 'man comm'

Try it

comm -23 file1 file2
comm -13 file1 file2

Yes, that is an option i thought of. But comm cannot handle files greater than 2GB. Anything that can handle?

Why not mention that you need a largefile aware program in the first post? In addition to producing output that you don't like, diff cannot handle largefiles. Yet you implied that the output was the only problem. We need better information than that so we can help you on the first try.

By typing "man largefile", you can see your options. One of your few options is bdiff. One of the shells or awk will also work so you could write a script.

Yes, my apologies, i should have mentioned that in the first place. Let me state the complete problem below.

I have two sorted files and i need to strip the lines that are common to both of them. Ideally, a comm command should be usable here, but comm does not have largefile support, hence i need some other way to do it. fgrep also is capable of comparing, but it does not utilize the fact that the files are sorted and hence the time to complete is very high.

Is there any utility which would help me here, ideally a largefile version of comm?
