The X11 page can be found here:
Open Source - Tools - X11

This comes with OS X leopard which I'm using.

I got my program working by using
open -a /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app/Contents/MacOS/Terminal ./some_program

this works fine with crontab.

I would still love to know how to run an interactive program scheduled with cron on a regular linux machine that doesn't come with open command like in mac.
Thanks People

Again, how is "env DISPLAY=..." failing ? Any error message ?
Launching an X client through crontab works fine with me (Solaris & Linux), as long as I'm logged in obviously.

xhost + should prevent most difficulties. You're going to have a heck of a time enabling TCP connections at all so there's no worry of that letting everyone in.

Linux doesn't have an "open" command because it doesn't need one, there's no magic difference between running something with the UI and running something as a user. (Except sometimes in Gnome. Grrr.)

Code:
xhost +

isn't required if your own crontab launches the X application.
