sql plus

Hi,
I'm trying to connect to the sql plus from my unix server(putty)

I got this error message

ksh: sqlplus: not found

Then i tried to modify my .profile with the below syntax (as took from our forum)
ORACLE_HOME
ORACLE_SID
PATH

But it display the same kind of error

Any clarification and assistance will be highly appercitable

Additionally,
If you are connecting to a remote database, you might not get "oraenv" executed successfully.
"oraenv" uses "oratab" to find the database instances (generally which are hosted on the server).

If it fails to find database instance, it tries to set the /opt/oracle (the default) which might not be the correct.
To overcome this situation, run "oraenv" for any hosted database instance ( this will at least give you "sqlplus" invocation )
and check "tnsnames.ora" for proper SID.
