ctrl-c in script

how to send ctrl-c signal in scripts ???
i am executing top command in .exp script

top command gives cpu running activities on your machine
eg

to stop top command from exectunig we have to press ctrl-c

i want to send ctrl-c signalin .exp script or a simple bash script

You can ALSO use 'q' to exit top. Since top is a interactive command, using it in a script is not a good idea. However, a expect script my help you to automatically interact with top. man expect please.

Why can't you use "-d" option available with "top" instead of Ctrl-C

In response to the original question, "kill" is the name of the command used to send signals to processes.
