Also, you can't wrap your regex in quotes, BASH won't accept it. Literal spaces seem to be okay to put in quotes.

How about:

Change the last * to ? if you only want it to match zero or one -Suffix things.

The only thing is that it won't allow is a hyphenated last name like

You don't need backreferences for that, just match zero or more -Suffix things like (-[A-Z][a-z]+)* Try my post above

Thanks for all the help on this. Wanted to see if I could get one more piece of information from you.

In addition to what I'm using now I'd like to be able to enter capital letters after lowercase letters in the last name only while still maintaining the rule that the first letter of the surname has to be a capital.

Brian McGuffie for example is OK

Converting perl regex to sed regex

I am having trouble parsing rpm filenames in a shell script.. I found a snippet of perl code that will perform the task but I really don't have time to rewrite the entire script in perl.
