Expect get host ip

Hi,
I am trying to get the users ip address as an expect variable

Bash (works):
Code:
/sbin/ifconfig | grep 'inet addr' | grep -v 127.0.0.1 | head -1 | /bin/cut -d: -f2 | /bin/cut -d' ' -f1

Expect (fails):
Code:
set HOST_IP [exec /sbin/ifconfig | grep 'inet addr' | grep -v 127.0.0.1 | head -1 | /bin/cut -d: -f2 | /bin/cut -d' ' -f1]

However I am getting:
Code:
grep: addr': No such file or directory

Is there a way to tell expect not to interpret this command before executing? I have tried backslashes to no luck. Is there anything else?

Thanks,
Ryan

You gots so many laya, you losing quotes. Try "'inet addr'" or \'inet addr\' to give them one mo lif!

You can also try to use {} to quote your bash command. It'll prevent any interpretation.
