files in the input directory is

"usa_newjercy_042008.dat"

I have to search newjercy files usa_newjercy*.dat files and I have to copy month and year from the file and add that info to each record in that file.

Hi ,

I have list of files in the input directory

I have specified the file format

files in the input directory is

"usa_newjercy_042008.dat"
"usa_newjercy_012009.dat"

I need to read the newjercy state files and cut the numaric part from the file , past the value to each record in the file.

What would be the expected output?

One of the things that imagine could be is:
usa_newjercy_042008.dat 042008
usa_newjercy_012009.dat 012009
usa_ohao_042008.dat 042008

Hi all,

The file names are

"usa_newjercy_042008.dat"
"usa_newjercy_012009.dat"
"usa_ohao_042008.dat"

recod format is :

1,abc
2,def

grep the 042008 from "usa_newjercy_042008.dat" file and append to record

output is :

1,abc,042008
2,def,042008

I have to repete the same process for all the files. by grep the numaric info from the file name

If you already have a file with all these file names (without quotes):
Code:
#!/usr/bin/ksh
while read mFname
do
  mMMDDYY=$(echo ${mFname} | sed 's/.*_\(.*\).dat/\1/')
  echo $mMMDDYY
  sed "s/$/,${mMMDDYY}/" ${mFname} > Temp_File
  mv Temp_File ${mFname}
done < inp_file
