Hi All,

I am connecting to Oracle DB from UNIX script. Want to capture all dates between start date and end date and store them in file. Once this is done, want to read dates one by one. How to achive this in UNIX and Oracle? Please let me know if you have any idea on the same.

I have already given one logic for capturing start date to end date in the previous post. Now you can use those dates one by one in your oracle query.

If this isn't your requirement, then give us more details about it.

I had two techniques in mind.
1. Increment date in UNIX (as explained in my previous post).
2. Connect to DB from UNIX and get all dates between start date and end date and store them in file. Once this is done, read dates from file one by one then append date to file and find the same in processed directory.

I wanted have both techniques ready by Monday. Please let me know if you have any ideas on the same.

For item number 1, I have already given a solution which worked well for me while providing start date and end date.

For 2,
you could use isql to connect to your DB and execute a query which will produce the list of dates. The output of isql shall be stored in a file like below.

Code:

#  isql database_name db_user_name <<EOF
select date_val from test_table
EOF > output.txt

Later this output file can be used in the script as you wanted.
