How do I use pipe in perl
I want to do the following in perl:

print $output | grep ' something' | awk '{print $2}';

I know there is system(); but it does not behave the way I was expecting it in perl.

If you only wanna use pipe in perl take a look over here

But for the example you give here is a perl solution :

$ perl -lane 'print $F[1] if /something/;' inputfile.txt
of
$ any_command | perl -lane 'print $F[1] if /open/;'
