There are three ways to declare variables to / in awk:

Code:
awk -v RS=" " '.....'  # don't try this in Solaris's /usr/bin/awk!

Code:
awk '.....' RS=" " # Don't try this if you plan to use "RS" in the "BEGIN" part of an awk script, and put the declarations before filenames, where the processing of such files requires that value

Code:
awk '..... { RS=" "; ..... } .....'  # Do this anywhere in the awk script.

I get it now. As I had written it, I should get same result, is that true?

echo "file1 file2 file3 -file4 file5= sdf-sdf =file filr=232 file-6" | awk 'BEGIN {RS=" ";ORS=" "} /^-/ || /=/'

And I can do

set Lst = `echo "file1 file2 file3 -file4 file5= sdf-sdf =file filr=232 file-6" | awk 'BEGIN {RS=" ";ORS=" "} /^-/ || /=/'`

or actually

Code:
set fnameLst = "file1 file2 file3 -file4 file5= sdf-sdf =file filr=232 file-6"
set Lst = `echo $fnameLst | awk 'BEGIN {RS=" ";ORS=" "} /^-/ || /=/'`

help with matching strings

In C programming how do i check if a char is equal to a vowel , like a e i o or u, small or big case. in my function i have the parameter like *word, and i am using word in a for loop, to check if its equal. i use tolower(word)=='a' || ..... but for some reason it only matches on lower case and...
