I will try the first one.

For regardign EBCDIC, i need to find out whether there is Header and Trailer records. Here i want to write a Generic Script it should check the file(either its is EBCDIC or ASCII).

Well, if no header in ascii, see if there is a header in EBCDIC. There are no magic markups, files are piles of bytes and can be anything. Code and scripts have embedded magic, see man file, but it is shaky, saying gzipped files are awk or perl!

Do you want it translated? Rename it $file.ebc, and then dd an ascii copy to $file.

I have done the first thing. it worked for me

for second question, When i get this EBCDIC format file script is not able to identify the record which starts with 1 and Z then my condition is failing becasue there should be at leaset one record wich starts eith 1 and one with Z in the each file.

So if we can convert thies to ASCII we can achieve this i believe, but we are not sure which input file will be EBCDIC and ASCII. So we need to find this do the rest of the process
