my file structure is

Code:

abc.xml
def.xml
ghi.xml

and im passing this file to the command as

Code:

while read line 
do 
  sed '/<!ENTITY/s/\//\\/g' $line 
  echo $line
done <file

This is not working even though the files are present in the same directory structure
and echo $file is showing abc.xml,def.xml,ghi.xml..
Can anyone help

Try this:

while read line
do 
  sed '/<!ENTITY/s/\//\\/g' "$line" > tempfile
  mv tempfile > "$line"
done <file

If your sed version supports the -i option you can replace these 2 lines:

sed '/<!ENTITY/s/\//\\/g' "$line" > tempfile
mv tempfile > "$line"

with

Code:

sed -i '/<!ENTITY/s/\//\\/g' "$line"
