Append string at start of line

Hi,
I want to append # at the start of line wherever keyword xyz is found through stream editor? Is it possible?

Thanks Vgersh...but i am not getting the switch to append the string in the file itself instead of redirecting the output...I am on AIX V5.3...On Linux, -i helped me achieve that.

It throws me an error saying :
Extra characters at end of "substitute" command.

Can you also help me understand it, I am just not an expert in shell scripting Smilie

It get executed without any error but no change in the actual file
