Retun yesterday's date on HP-UX

I would like to know how to get previous day date on HP-UP.

On linux i proceed the follwoing way.

Code:
alioune@baccus ~/bashtuto/uip $ date  +%Y-%m-%d -d "1 day ago"
2011-03-27
alioune@baccus ~/bashtuto/uip $

On HP-UX
Code:
[pd_uip2:/ztesoft/uip/log/apache]$ date  +%Y-%m-%d -d "1 day ago"
2011-03-28
[pd_uip2:/ztesoft/uip/log/apache]$

It returns today's date.

Thx for your help

That's because the "n <time_unit>" syntax is a non-standard GNU date extension. Perderabo wrote a script to do date calculations cross-platform.

May not be exactly what you want , but I am sure you can edit it

date '+%y%m%d' | awk '{print $1-1}'

Lol, prints 00..good catch.., I am sure there is a more elegant way of doing this but worst case you could have a if statement and make use of the last day part of Perderabo's script.

Code:
TZ=$(($TZ +24)) date +%Y%m%d

but to avoid offset pb :

Code:
Uday=`TZ=GMT date +%d` Uhr=`TZ=GMT date +%H` Lday=`date +%d` Lhr=`date +%H`

if [ $Lday = $Uday ]; then
Offset=`expr $Uhr - $Lhr` else Offset=`expr $Uhr + 24 - $Lhr` fi

Diff=`expr 24 + $Offset`
echo -n "yesterday was " TZ=GMT+$Diff date +%Y-%m-%d

Diff=`expr 24 - $Offset`
echo -n "tomorrow will be " TZ=GMT-$Diff date +%Y-%m-%d

of course this is to be adapted depending on your plateform, but the main logic is here.

Otherwise, you can just get & install the GNU date everywhere Smilie
