Script for combining files with terminal

Hi im new to scripting and im trying to create a script that will allow me to combine movie files via the cat command in terminal.
my original implementation worked fine but i want to improve it to include multiple files.
this is what i originally had:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
echo "First movie name"
read mov1
echo "Second movie name"
read mov2
echo "Final movie name"
read final
cat $mov1 $mov2 > inter.avi
mencoder -forceidx -oac copy -ovc copy inter.avi -o $final
rm inter.avi

thanks for any help and bare in mind im new to this so as noob-friendly as possible please

Your terminal isn't your shell. But your shell's probably bash, then. Bash supports arrays, which are useful for storing a list of stuff like what you're trying to do.

Code:
#!/bin/bash

N=1
# -n tells it not to print a newline.
echo -n "Input filename 1: "
read ARR[0]
# Loop while the user hasn't entered a blank name
while [ ! -z "$FILENAME" ]
do
        echo -n "Input filename $((N+1)): "
        read ARR[$N]
        ((N++))
done

# Loop over the array. FILE is set to each element in turn.
for FILE in "${ARR[@]}"
do
       echo "do something with $FILE"
done

It will read in filenames one by one until you give it a blank filename.
