Help wth Net::FTP in script sometimes fails but wsftp always works

Hi,

I have a script that transfers files from a Solaris server to target unix servers. The script uses Net::FTP->put to write the files, which can be any number of files, not always the same. This script works flawlessly to many servers.

For one particular instance of the script, sometimes the 'puts' fail, not always on the same file. What is odd is I can transfer that file, and many others with ws-ftp from my PC. Any idea why that would be? First I tried to set the buffer size in the ftp->new to the 4096 like wsftp, from the default 10240, but that didn't work.

I see in the doc about Net::FTP, there is a dataconn class. Can I use those commands without specifying any other class in the perl program? There is a "write ( BUFFER, SIZE [, TIMEOUT ] )" statement. I cannot find any more information about that, like what is the default BUFFER. Can I use it instead of 'put'?

thanks

How frequently and how predictably does it fail? It could just be network problems.

If you can detect the failure you could simply retransmit the file.

Hi,

This is a new instance of the script but it happens almost every time when executing it from the perl script. It doesn't happen on the other instances of the same script. Also, it doesn't happen on all files and there are no problems when using windows wsftp (no matter how large the file). You can just rerun it and sometimes it works.

Wsftp doesn't have a specific size setting except but there is a Receive Size under buffers that is 4096 so I tried setting the block size in the ftp->new to the receive default size for wsftp but that didn't help.

I mentioned the dataconn.pl write statement. Any suggestions on that?

Thank you

We can't tell why it's not working without more information. Any error messages, etc would be good. And of course the perl code itself.
