If you can have quotes in field 3 you could quite conceivably have input like this:

Code:
"one":"field one",
"two":"field two",
"three":"
She Said, "No, this
 
is going to cause
 
trouble"
"

Which will upset the number of quotes mod 2 logic.

yeah I took a step back and decided to alter an earlier step in the process, so I actually have this:

@@@one@@@:@@@field one@@@,
@@@two@@@:@@@field two@@@,
@@@three@@@:@@@he said "hello"@@@

that way I can delimit all quotes, then go back and change @@@ to " safely.

If this all seems convoluted, it's because I'm dealing with source files of different origin. This particular one starts in XML, but others don't. So I'm trying to get them all into JSON format so that my php code can simply do a json_decode and then go straight to the DB.
