Hello, I tried. And it generates frequencies to the right, but does not sort them. AM giving below the code as such:
# wordfreq.awk --- print list of word frequencies
{gsub(/[^[:alnum:]_[:blank:]]/, "", $0)
for (i = 1; i <= NF; i++) {freq[$i]++}
}
END {
for (word in freq)
printf "%d\t%s\n", freq[word],word
sort -nr}
Many thanks for your patience,

Gimley

Hello,
Many thanks. Unluckily I am in Windows and the | symbol is something dos does not want to understand.
Pipe is treated as an invalid character and the script is treated as "illegal"
Guess there is no other way but to sort it by using another shell script.
Many thanks for all your hel. At least I learned how to use sort -nr as a function.
