Bug Redirect o/p from shell
hi,

I've a shell which does few manipulations on different text files. I need to divert all the output to a single file.

i dont want to mention the o/p file name in command prompt (or) in every shell command.

Is it possible to mention it part of the shell?

It always helps to know what Shell you have!

One way (in Korn Shell):

lots of commands

) 2>&1 > outfile.txt

Another way:

#!/bin/sh
# open file for writing on FD 1 (i.e. standard output).
exec >file
# open file.err for writing on FD 2 (i.e. standard error).
exec 2>/path/to/file.err

echo "This goes into file"
echo "This goes into file.err" >&2

Should work in most shells.
