Hi

I am trying to check the successfull transfer of a file from my local server to remote server.
I wish to generate a md5 checksum of the file residing on my local server and also generate a md5checksum on the remote server and compare value.
I was successfull in generating checksum on local server.
How can i generate checksum on remote server after transfering the file?
Being in FTP mode, can i generate a checksum of file on remote server

You need login the remote server by telnet or ssh.

Some ftp clients and servers support the non-standard XCRC command. Once an XCRC-enabled FTP client performs a transfer, it can request the XCRC-enabled FTP server to do a checksum calculation on the file. The XCRC command performs a CRC32 checksum over the file - not a MD5 hash. If it matches the checksum on the client, then the transfer is deemed successful. Note that XCRC applies to FTP only, not SFTP.

If you want to automatically verify integrity, use the SFTP protocol. A SFTP client performs a checksum (using MD5, SHA or better) on each packet as it is sent and includes that checksum along with the packet. The SFTP server gets that packet, decrypts the data, and then verifies the checksum. Because of the additional checksum overhead, STFP is slower than FTP but the successful completion of a transfer means that the file has be transferred correctly and there should be no need for additional checking.
