comparing and sorting files

i have a file a with contents

Code:
tom
lasole
jon
gillesam

and a file b with contents

Code:
tom|1234|abcf|newyork,ohio,oregon
sam|2345|drft|texas,london
hyle|4444|befr|wisconsin
neyo|2333|tdtt|ohio,jersey

i want to compare records in file a to file b such that when the name tom is found in file b column 1 and has either 1234 or abcf or newyork or ohio or oregon IN Columns 2,3, or 4 display as

Code:
tom|NOO

else display

Code:
sam|YES.

so the output of file a after comparison should be

Code:
tom | NOO
lasole|YES
jon|YES
gille|YES
sam|YES

since tom has either 1234, or abcf or newyork or ohio or oregon in column2,3 or 4 of file b

Since this question is not much different from one of your other posts:
https://www.unix.com/shell-programmin...es-output.html
I will close this thread. There is already a suggestion from rbatte1 in the other thread, you did not even care to answer if it works for you.

Also include a an excerpt of what you have tried so far. People are not serving here - at least a minimum of communication and feedback from users to solve their problems is welcome.
